udev broken in sid

Gahhh! Ages since sid has broken my toys.

My laptop keyboard and mouse stopped working, as did battery status, and wireless.

I can get the keyboard to restart by plugging in a usb numeric keypad. I'm having to use usb trackball, and connecting to the intertubes by wired, or tethering my phone. Ho hum. All will be well in a few days I guess.

Nothing came up on list-bugs.

There are fixed packages in the aptosid repo, if you don't mind using their packages. The one and only reason I keep the aptosid repo in my sources.list.

I have added the aptosid repo and updated the udev packages.

I then disabled the aptosid repo. Am I right in thinking that udev will update seamlessly from sid with future updates there?

The aptosid update has fixed most of my problems (wireless, battery info, alsa) ... but not the keyboard and trackpad problem, in fact the keyboard now will not come to life by plugging in a usb keypad. Maybe I borked them with a different package update. I'll put something in the questions section if I can't track it down.

Yes they will upgrade to the next sid version.

For anyone that uses smxi udev , libudev0, and libgudev-1.0-0 are currently on hold.

I then followed smallchange's advice in your thread on the other forum to downgrade to the testing version. All hunky dory now. Cheers.

The aptosid patch restored my wireless, but not the mouse and keyboard. I found this on the aptosid forum:

Try booting with "rw" instead of "ro" in the kernel boot line. It fixes the keyboard and mouse on my netbook. The new udev alone does not fix the issue in all cases, apparently.

Booting once with rw in the kernel boot line fixed both the keyboard and mouse. Rebooting changing back to ro still works. That seems to have been a permanent fix.

Darn, I wish I saw this thread before!

I always check apttosid for information when I have sid problems. I used to apttosid version of udev, but then my keyboard completely stopped working. I solved the problem by deleting the /run directory.

Took no more than 15 minutes.
