Why did "god" get banned

I learned after the fact that someone registered an account here with the username 'god' and left a few tongue-in-cheek/humorous posts in "Devuan 2.0 RC announcement" and the in the "Nonsense "introductions" thread.

According to #2 of The Founding Principles in a nutshell:

2. No member will ever have his/her posts deleted or edited in any way by anyone else, so long as they do not contain spam or illegal content (warez or child pr0n being the examples that come to mind) or links to such things. No member will ever be banned, (spam-bots excepted) unless they persist in posting illegal content. No amount of dissension or disagreement nor personal attacks will get you banned, so don't ask to be!

So why exactly was this new user (who has been very productive and helpful on the dev1galaxy forum) banned and who did the deed?

This experiment was likely prompted by some moderation questions that have come up at d1g.

Well it was a false god, and a liar, maybe the father of lies, The REAL GOD does not like that when nut cases go around using His name, and that nut case that tries to promote it's temple OS, he is doing the devils work, not gods, god does not need some cracker box nut case to write a OS for him, .

We are both confused as this has always been a completely unmoderated forum.

History again, has, was, used to be, but a time for changes all ways comes, if and when change is needed.
When people start making posts claiming to be god , or any other religious characters, could be budda or hari krisni, or what ever, that kind of junk indicates a need for change, and perhaps some moderation.
It is sad, but any time a public forum is 100% unmoderated, sooner or later some one comes a long and starts taking advantage of the situation. The sooner someone steps in and shows it won't be accepted , the better.
So any way I think who ever removed those posts did the right thing. I did see the posts, and also the site one had a link to, and I would have done the same, if I was a admin or mod.

Hey Pick2 . . . Thanks for 'fessing up to dropping the ban hammer. It does seem a little unfair that a n00bie isn't granted the same rights to be silly as those of us who have years of "experience" here. None of the rules in that section were broken as far as I can see so I don't quite get it.

From "god":

I wrote a parody introduction about me, god, overseeing an ancient failed computer project. I'm willing to accept responsibility, but since the rules seem really lax, I'm just trying to figure out which ones I broke. :\

Anyways, this whole thing seems to have gotten way too far out of hand way too quickly. I saw the username "god" was available and thought the jokes would be palpable -- like, very palpable. I was sorely mistaken. I am glad someone caught the TempleOS reference, though.

For all the "free speech" reputation this forum carries in other communities, this is all quite surprising, but upon re-registering, I did find the fine print this time:

You agree that “Debian User Forums” have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should we see fit.

So much for all the other rules.

Anyways, tl;dr is I've used Linux for a whopping eight years and regularly contribute to nix and bsd communities. I joined this one because I've been researching refracta's developments lately and noticed there's a niche community here.

Not really , no one is angry. If it were not for the spammy looking links god posted , he would not have gotten vaporized. One persons practical joke is another's spamming / trolling / whatever.

Maybe next time you decide to push buttons , you should read the labels first and avoid ones like "Self Distruct" or "Thermonuclear Detonator"

We usually remove spammers and their posts on sight... not sure what happened here, but I'd suggest it's just an accident and "god" is free to register a new account.

In Pick2's defence - he does not and never has, attempted to "moderate" here, he has only ever removed spam from this site.
