Setting Up A DNS Server From Scratch

I'm brand new to setting up a DNS on Debian. I've bought a domain name, and I would like to point it to my server.

I've followed multiple tutorials, and read multiple things over this issue. So far the most popular is Bind9.

I don't care which DNS server package it is. Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial, or read about setting up a working DNS server on Debian 6.0.

I understand what a static IP is, and how to set one up in my

/etc/network/interfaces file

I've only got one server. It will act as a DNS / Web / Database server.

I understand that it is better too have two name servers, but I can only work with what I've got. Another issue is that alot of these DNS tutorials tell me too have at least two static IP addresses. How is it possible to have two static Ip addresses on one machine?


In summary. Can anyone tell me the simplest way to direct my domain name to my server so that when i go to the domain it directs me to the IP of my server. I also want to set the DNS up so that in the future if I want I can have two or three domain names pointed to my server using different IP's of course.

A lot of tutorials don't cover little things that the newbies don't know. If anyone has any advice for me , or can point me too a good tutorial I'd appreciate it.

I know there is a lot more to setting up a DNS and point a domain too it than some of these tutorials talk about.

Oh, and I plan to use the domain name I bought for the server. For example I plan to have it
ns.mydomain.com

I know how to set up the server name, and domain name. I also know that
/etc/hosts is where I assign IP addresses for different hosts / server name. But making it accesible over the net is where I'm lost.
