I have Devede installed, so I will try it and come back "later".

Can you try it via command line, with xfburn or k3b? See if it persists. If yes, then it's maybe one of the command line tools or libraries that Brasero relies on. If not, then it's Brasero and you know better to stay away from it.

Brasero errors are overwhelming indeed. I was just trying to keep Gnome as Gnome as possible, but it seems it's not completely possible.

Luckily I have a great lot of time tomorrow so I think I will try my behind off then :)

Thanks gentlemen!

FWIW, xfburn is gtk (from the Xfce project) and k3b can be forced to use gtk theme and icons via the package systemsettings.

Update: best results at this moment (without installing too many non-Gnome-native apps, is the howto (although it doesn't have the name "howto") of Kinslayer here: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=694

Especially the command
Code: Select all
genisoimage -o MOVIE_TITLE.iso -dvd-video MOVIE_TITLE/

does it all.

Now if I get the hang of wodim, I can burn CD's and DVD's from my server 8-)

Thanks all!

I converted the VIDEO_TS folders to .iso using genisoimage and to DVD using growisofs. Two conclusions afterwards:

- the burning and iso-creating tools work fine, it must be Brasero that screws up
- growisofs actually calls dd to do the job

One step further in cli-land 8-)
