KDE Panel

Postby mharrison » July 9th, 2011, 12:55 pm

So all of you KDE fanbois. I'm playing around with KDE in Squeeze and all of the sudden all of the panel except for the system tray turns black....I don't see why it did nor any way to change it back to the default color. Any ideas? I've been hunting through menus for about an hour now.

Vague much? :D

- Stable/Testing/Sid?
- Did you perhaps add a plasmoid when it fucked up? What does "playing around" mean?
- Did you browse through the bug tracker?
- Worst case scenario: You'll have to delete the panel's config (I have no idea where this is -- probably in ~/.kde). Not it'll really be data loss, just annoying.

Read carefully enough much? :P

I said in Squeeze. I installed KDE and ran
Code: Select all
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

After adding the net repos in since I was on my netbook and the netconfig failed when installing.

Other than that I have just been playing with applications and learning the menu's. I haven't installed or removed anything. Something must have changed a config or setting during the upgrade between point releases but I am not knowlredgeable enough in KDE to have known what to look for or if there was any issues since I never used KDE.

Data loss isn't an issue since I don't store anything on my netbook.

It was a bug though:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=585721

I deleted /var/tmp/kdecache-USER_NAME

logged out and back in and all is well. Back to learning :D

Obviously not!

Well, it's gotta be a panel thing since no plasmoid causes it. And hopefully it'll be fixed soon. BTW, I also moved to stable with KDE now. Testing was too stressful. But I never had this issue.

I had this. For me the following did the trick: select a different workspace theme, apply, reselect your old theme, apply, problem solved.
