Network IP on GNome Deskop Background

Does anyone know of a way to display real-time network IP on my GNome desktop ?

Also network traffic graph if possible.

Thanks for that suggestion , do you know how to activate it ?

I have tried looking at http://conky.sourceforge.net/documentation.html but the link to Documentation are all dead (404s) for me. '

I have installed from using apt-get install conky but nothing appears to have changed and I cannot find a menu item or settings to activate it.

Sorry for the simple questions, I am sure I am missing something obvious.
