Can't get onboard sound to work

Postby asgard20032 » June 3rd, 2012, 8:24 pm

Recently, i build a new computer. The sound work great under windows, so the hardware is in top shape... But when i boot under Debian, it don't work at all. If i click on the audio panel (top right of the desktop, gnome menu), it say:

The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you do not have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you do not have a sound card configured.

You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.

If i run
Code: Select all
alsactl init
, it outpout:
Code: Select all
alsactl: init:1743: No soundcards found...

Fresh install, using a graphical environment, always used default setting during installation.

Hardware:

Fatal1ty Z77 profesionnal from Asrock
I7-3770k
HD 4000 (from I7-3770k)
2 Caviar Black 1 TB from Western digital
1 dvd reader
16 GB of memory, 2X 8GB Gskill (F3-1600C9D-16GXM)

Latest Bios version

Fatal1ty Z77 motherboard on-board audio:

My recommendation would be to try a backported kernel.

I jsut checked how backports worked... I decided using backports when i saw that Iceweasel didn't got the sync option. After, I saw that using backports is easy, and moved on to install other thing... i installed the new xserver-xorg-intel package from backports and the new kernel from backports.

The onboard sound and switching terminal now working. I LOVE BACKPORTS NOW! All im waiting is gimp 2.8 in backport...

Thanks all, especially Beewolf who recommand me backport kernel... I alway was unsure how to update my kernel, but because of port, now its easy. It even add the booting option in bootloader for the new kernel.
