Sudden problem with X11 (and "Calibre")

Postby Jethro_UK » September 27th, 2016, 11:21 am

For no reason I can think of, I can't run Calibre.
I get :

Code: Select all
xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxx:/mnt/NewRAID/Misc$ calibre
failed to get the current screen resources
QXcbConnection: XCB error: 172 (Unknown), sequence: 163, resource id: 150, major code: 149 (Unknown), minor code: 20
The X11 connection broke: I/O error (code 1)
XIO:  fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server ":50.0"
after 368 requests (368 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

I am connecting in via X2Go and have been for 5 years. I always upgrade when advised.

Anyone any suggestions, please. Dr. Google seems to hint this is a known bug - but there is no fix ??????

Just some additional info.

I created a brand new user, logged in via X2Go, and tried to run Calibre from the command line, and got the same error.

I searched and found something which might be relevant:

"What, are you... uh... undercover or something?"
"No, I'm underpaid."

Thank you very much :) , but no-go. :(

To be honest I have installed NX server and am connecting using that - I really haven't got the time to mess around with obscure faults that no one else is looking at or fixing.

Once again, I can't sell Linux desktop to the boss (servers are easy).

At least this post will immediately alert anyone else with this problem that it's really, really shit.
