Bite me, Verizon

Tweaking a computer is fun, but some people actually use their Debian system to accomplish various tasks. If you are one of those, post your trials and triumphs here.

Bite me, Verizon

Postby traveler » August 1st, 2012, 4:55 am

I have been using Verizon Wireless "mobile wifi" as my primary internet access for a few months on my droid handset. When I added the $20 per month feature to my plan to allow me to use my phone as an AP, I was a bit disgusted. I have my amateur radio license and am familiar with a lot of FCC shit that most people don't care about. When Verizon made the C-Block purchase with the US gubment, it was with the understanding that it would allow "fair use". No restrictions on what used the data, be it phone, laptop, tablet, whatever. So, despite my trepidation and knowledge that Verizon was not operating under the spirit of the agreement, and the fact I didn't need my primary communication tool shut off for violating TOS, I signed up for their scam. Nevermind that I was using nowhere near my previous 4GB data limit, much less ever approach my new 6GB limit with their $20 per month extortion for me to have a usable connection... Well, fuck you Verizon. For the first time in my adult life, I have witnessed a government agency do something in the interest of the people.

I am in the process of getting all of my money back from these cocksuckers right now and continuing to use mobile wifi. If you are a Verizon Wireless customer and have been swindled on mobile data, call customer service and demand to be reimbursed. Make it clear to these assholes you will not participate in a class-action suit and unless you are completely reimbursed you will seek litigation. They will take the easy way out and pay up. WIN!!! :D

Managed to get a refund on my next bill without having to threaten lawyering up. They'll usually only credit back 3 billing cycles, but that worked out ok for me since that's how long I had it on my account. If you had the "feature" longer, you'll probably have difficulty getting anything back beyond 90 days. Just make sure to tell them you are aware of the FCC ruling and expect them to make it right. As long as you used less data than you would have without the mobile-wifi feature, you have a legitimate reason to seek a refund.

Love the title of this thread! Congrats on successfully recouping your losses.

What does this have to do with 'Doing stuff with Debian'? Are you testing the mods on this board too?

Haha. Well, I use it with my laptops and I only use Debian. So for me, it's doing stuff with Debian. Either way, it's nice to stick it to an evil corporation whenever you can.

Yup. I do so whenever the occasion arises.
