Tweaking a computer is fun, but some people actually use their Debian system to accomplish various tasks. If you are one of those, post your trials and triumphs here.
I have a Texlive DVD and the install script uses Perl, ie it starts with
When I run the script I get the errors
install-tl: 22: install-tl: my: not found
install-tl: 23: install-tl: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
I then downloaded the network installation file install-tl-unx.tar.gz, unpacked it and tried again. This returns the same errors. What is going on? Has anyone installed TeX successfully?

This reply is a bit late, but I came across a support page which might help you or others in future:https://www.tug.org/texlive/quickinstall.html
Hope this helps,
