No kidding. Our resident muppet is the most pr0n-obsessed, low-minded human I have ever encountered. I need a bath. Western civilization is indeed doomed . . . (as was Rome)

I run in such people all the time. All those big words. Do it like a cow, laying lazy on the lawn. Thanks god i still run in those people. too.

the bot: The fad of the month (as of June 2018) is Docker. It's always Docker. Why are they doing it THAT WAY? Because Docker.

makes sense? Well, i hear about docker, as one of the hypes, day in and out. It's vogue. Some might wanna call it tech stuff. Still it's a vogue, and that's about it. Gimme a good old fashioned "find" solution, if you can, instead. But no big words.

Now i think of Telemachus. ...

If i ran these days in the sad state of the linux world, i would consider computers to be shit, and do something different.

PS: if i'd care enough i'd search for the fire and brimstone outbursts of julian67 when it came to the phoronix fanboys and the site itself. tech stuff. shesh.

I get a kick out of Linux users that want the system to be like Windows or Android who migrate to BSD and have questions or difficulty installing Gnome3 and KDE. One would think a simple window manager would be attractive to someone using a system designed on the principle of simplicity, but ... Especially Gnome. After, going to all the trouble of removing systemd, it is still bloated and Linux centric. Perhaps they just want to brag on Linux fora that they use BSD?

As for "technical" websites, most of them are the same as the mass news media. Sensational stories that get attention so increased audience or readers generate more advertising revenue. So it is not surprising they have a large following of eager readers of the gospel.

On a side note, I saw a rat a few days ago in a school hallway. Nice way to start the work day. It is the little things that make life enjoyable. :D

The l1tf mitigations from September seem to address disabling SMT?

My Debian testing system is covered with the new nosmt kernel parameter:
Code: Select all
empty@buster:/sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities $ grep -R .
spectre_v2:Mitigation: Full generic retpoline, IBPB, IBRS_FW
l1tf:Mitigation: PTE Inversion; VMX: conditional cache flushes, SMT disabled
spec_store_bypass:Mitigation: Speculative Store Bypass disabled via prctl and seccomp
spectre_v1:Mitigation: __user pointer sanitization
meltdown:Mitigation: PTI
empty@buster:/sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities $

Does anybody have a stable system to test?

EDIT: looks like the sysfs knobs have been altered as well, my old scripts don't work anymore.

Never saw: grep -R .
I had to ask what it does. Don't ask what it does. No one will like you anymore. You have been warned.

probably an arch-ism, aka show off.

I'm pretty sure that ship has already sailed, but thanks for the advice

What does Dragora's kernel say about vulnerabilities on your machine?
