Top two google results for "debian user forum" are

  • forums.debian.net
and

What is the difference?

I assume this has been asked and answered a million times

The first one is the original / older one. The second is a splinter from the first. Both are debian volunteer user owned and operated.

Just in case you didn't see this over at FDN:

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=109992

This forum split off from FDN and then with systemd many moved on to various non-systemd OS - gentoo, bsd etc. and of course, Devuan (which is my new home).

Strange. The banner at the top says
debianuserforums.org a place for debian users

golinux by her own admission doesn't use Debian...

And what does that have to do with anything? History is history. And BTW Devuan is 98% untouched Debian. Devuan is the Debian that could (and should) have been.

Thanks everybody.

I believe I posted the same question to FDN but there's no trace of it now so I guess they deleted it.

Tells me all I need to know about the difference between the forums I suppose.

Anyway what motivated me to create an account was I've been trying to install firmware-9.4.0-amd64-netinst.iso on my laptop without a "desktop environment," and the usual things I used to do to get the wifi working with older versions of Debian and other laptops are not working now.

Where is the correct place to talk about this?

I answered there too. Guess they're a little touchy about Debian's and the forum's decline. Or maybe because a similar question had been asked before. I just noticed that the link I posted above pointing to that post is incomplete. Here's the right one:

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=109992

You can ask either here or there. Your post should reflect that you have searched for an answer.

You should probably get back to the helpdesk...

The history of rise, decline and fall. Fascinating reading for the history buff.

Perhaps System Issues? I cannot offer more than that, since I do not know the solution to the problem.

I looked at the other forum, and it seems to be more active, but it has a lot of rather rude members, a recent post , http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=137516&p=673838#p673838 This Mr.Debiman is not only is rude, but seems rather uneducated, any way even when they use **** in certain words, the meaning is still clear and offensive.
I am all for non moderated, "free speech" forums, but it is people like that make it not practical,
any way after browsing through the forum, it appears to me there is a lot of bickering, and several members that simply enjoy insulting others.
Intelligent , civilized people can (or should be able to )make comments and disagree with out needing to use vulgar and insulting language.
When I looked at this forum I did not see any posts that were just plain vulgar, still have not had time to read everything, so who knows, later, but any way in recent posts nothing like that.
