It won't happen in the US because anything that involves lots of people paying into a particular system and others using their "tax dollars" for free is "socialism". The same ones complaining are perfectly ok with their trillions being spent on bombing other countries and funding insurrections of course.

Over here, the current government are just continuing the slow dismantling of the NHS started by the government before last (them). The objective of course for this right wing party of pubic school boys and millionaire bankers sons, is a private healthcare system funded by insurance which the state doesn't pay for at all and only the privileged can afford. If you can get helicoptered to your private hospital 24/7 and get personal around the clock attention, why should you care...

Indeed: odd.

I would assume anyone would at least ask: Why on earth do you want to spend money on that and that operation?
No clue how much the 13 year war against Afghanistan did cost the german taxpayers.
But you hear no nothing of them
(I am not sure that many Gemans are aware at all we have been in war for 13 years, including warcrimes, Oberst Klein, wikipedia. In the news it simply doesn't happen).

hello,

i've installed debian on a dozen or two machines, since before wheezy went stable. i've had good luck with testing, except a bunch of things (don't worry, no help request, you guys have done enough already) seemed how should i put it? "odd." it was then i noticed that something called "systemd" was installed :/

well, you can guess the rest. i've read every page on the topic except page 47, and installed sysvinit-core (good so far.) thank you very much. if i ever find sysvinit lacking i will give poetterware another reluctant try, but i don't like broken things foisted on me when i've got something that suits me just fine.

now about this forum: i've been doing this stuff for at least 7 years, and i gave up on ubuntu when it got too silly, but i'm not an elitist. i prefer everyday users, but a few wizards are alright by me. i've read a lot of history here and it looks like fun, (for some values of "fun.") still, i won't waste my time fitting a square peg in a round hole. if we get along, great; if not, i'll definitely be on my way. cheers.

thanks! i see this place as a possible stop-systemd-takeover headquarters, but even if it doesn't live up to that, it still looks like a very nice alternative to fdn (a forum which, after seeing this place, i have never been tempted to join.)

hi, my name is dodo
i am new here, i am also debian newbie
i dont know if this forum is newbie friendly, if not, say it now because,
i plan to ask you a lot of stupid questions
i already fiddled with ubuntu and linux lite, but i stumbled upon debian and liked idea of stability (i like it stable)
main reason of using debian on my 10+ years old computer is works fast (Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz, 1Gig of RAM)
debian 7.7 xfce i386 build uses only 110 MB of RAM on fresh install (checked with htop)
isn't that marvelous?
if i get it to run and tweak to my liking, i will also install it on my laptop.
:ugeek:

Welcome dodo. You will find us newbie friendly provided you are willing to work, research and learn. Don't expect to be spoon fed. Debian is not ubuntu, nor is it windows. You will want to read this article.
