Meh... I know what you mean, I simply dislike seeing corporations like mickeyshaft, google and fakebook getting more power and control over the WWW, but I suppose it's inevitable...

nadir wrote:Still news like that are not good (more pluralism would always be better, not more concentration).

We're heading for a situation where the company that makes someone's favourite social networking site may be the same company that supplies their browser and the tablet/smartphone that runs it. That can't be healthy - it's pretty much what MS were trying to achieve from the late 90's onwards...

I believe there's something called "twatter" for that...

That is a new level, i have to admit.

 But first they have to take Greece off the EU's hands -- latest I heard is the ECB has offered Farcebook €35 billion to make the deal.

I don't think Facebook will ever lock you into a certain software mainly because that would lock out lots of Mac, iPhone and iPad users. These users genuinely don't care that much about 3rd party software since most of them are brainwashed into using Apple stuff only. That would be a very unwise move by Facebook.
Furthermore, Facebook centres around web technologies and they make loads of money from advertising already. What use would they have to lock you into a free-as-in-beer browser? I think they rather want that technology to maybe build entertainment set top boxes so they can expand their entertainment offer a bit. Maybe they want to compete with Google soon.
